Reason #119 why Colombia is awesome: The Fruit
Barranquilla — By Ryan on May 4, 2010 6:24 amNow aside from the fact that at 8am every morning a guy with a cart, sometimes pulled by a donkey comes along screaming Auguacata (wow, it actually took 15 seconds to think of what that word is in english) which of course is Avocado sells avocado’s the size of both of my fists for 25 cents and the fact that there are probably 100 Mango tree’s dropping the sweetest fruit to the streets within a 5 block radius of my apartment, the real cool thing is the plethora of fruits I’ve never seen before in my entire life.

Lulo
Lulo takes the cake for the one that blew me away the most. On it’s own it is an interesting enough fruit but when you stick it in the blender with a little ice and a little sugar this fruit transforms into the sweetest more amazing candy like taste I have ever experienced in my life. Candy-like is the only real way to describe is as it tastes like you are drinking liquid candy but without it being over-sweet or making you feel sick to your stomach as most candy does when you eat too much.
Others include zapote, nispero lulo , uchuva , passion fruit, borojó , curuba ,mamoncillo , guanábana (Annona muricata), guava, mango, apple, pear, blackberry, strawberry and many others. Fruit and juice stands are found all over the place, particularly on the Caribbean coast.
Thanks Wikipedia
Everyday to the supermarket can be an adventure as there are bins of these crazy fruits that I have no idea what they are, and everyone that I open up and try is this amazing surprise.
